Fed up with the aggressive weed patch in front, a local celebrated architect and his family, requested a free flowing front yard landscape that would sit lightly on the land with a minimal use of hardscape materials.

Forgoing the typical thirsty high maintenance lawn approach, Kiesel Design, instead, imagined a bold, head turning, abstract riverine concept realized by sweeps of colorful ornamental grasses representing water channels and sandbars flowing in and around generously spaced pavers.

Grass Stream:
Armeria maritima 'Rubrifolia' (Ruby Red Sea Thrift), Festuca ovina var. glauca (Sheep's Fescue) & Sesleria caerulea (Blue Moor Grass)

Sand Bar/Islands/edges:
Carex testacea (Orange New Zealand Sage), Carex spissa (San Diego Sedge), Anigozanthos 'Gold Velvet' & ‘Red Cross (Kangaroo Paw) & Sedum ‘Dragon's Blood Red' (Dragon's Blood Sedum).

Front Yard Concept: The dark burgundy colored Ruby Sea Thrift was chosen to represent the deeper central run of the stream, the Sheep's Fescue is the shallows and the greenish blue Moor Grass is the stream edge. The islands are composed of earthy (reddish/cafe) tones, meant to denote land.
